Configure Claude Code Skills

Skills package reusable instructions, workflows, scripts, and resources for Claude Code. They do not replace the LAYSO AI endpoint or API-key configuration.

Skill locations

ScopePathUse case
Project.claude/skills/<skill-name>/SKILL.mdShared with a team and versioned with the repository
Personal~/.claude/skills/<skill-name>/SKILL.mdAvailable only to the current user
Plugin<plugin>/skills/<skill-name>/SKILL.mdDistributed with a Claude Code plugin

Create a project Skill

bash
mkdir -p .claude/skills/review-changes

Create .claude/skills/review-changes/SKILL.md:

markdown
---
name: review-changes
description: Review the current changes before delivery
---

# Review changes

1. Inspect the current diff.
2. Run the smallest relevant tests.
3. Report correctness, security, and regression risks.
4. Never print or commit API keys.

Use the Skill

Restart Claude Code, or wait for the client to reload Skills. Describe the matching task naturally or invoke it directly:

text
/review-changes

Commit project Skills when the team should share them. Keep personal preferences and machine-specific paths under ~/.claude/skills.

Install through plugins

text
/plugin

Review the source, instructions, and permissions before installation. Plugin Skills may use a namespace; invoke the name shown by the installed plugin.

Authoring guidelines

  • Write a specific description that explains when the Skill applies.
  • Use verifiable steps instead of vague quality instructions.
  • Resolve scripts and resources relative to the Skill directory.
  • Never include a LAYSO AI API key, private chat history, or production data.
  • Keep project rules concise and place large examples in separate Skill resources.

Troubleshoot Skills

Skill does not appear

Verify the directory name, exact SKILL.md casing, and YAML frontmatter, then restart Claude Code.

Command-name conflict

Rename duplicate project and personal Skills. For plugin Skills, use the namespace displayed by the client.

Unexpected commands run

Stop execution and inspect SKILL.md plus every referenced script. Treat third-party Skills like code dependencies: review before use.

Next step

Return to the Claude Code overview or review LAYSO AI model endpoint setup.
